Indiana Do-Not-Call Law Does Not Violate First Amendment Rights Of Charities

The Indiana Telephone Privacy Act, which precludes charities from telemarketing through professional fundraisers to citizens who have placed their phone numbers on the Indiana do-not-call list, does not violate the charities' free speech rights under the First Amendment. National Coalition of Prayer, Inc. v. Carter, No. 05-3995, 2006 U.S. App. LEXIS 18946 (7th Cir. July 28, 2006).

Directv to Pay $5.3 Million Penalty TO FTC For Do Not Call Violations

The FTC action included charges against DIRECTV and companies it hired to promote DIRECTV programming. According to the FTC, this is the largest civil penalty the FTC has ever announced in a case enforcing any consumer protection law.

Verizon Gets Injunction Against Two Cell Phone Telemarketers

An injunction against Resort Marketing Trends, a Coral Springs, Fla.-based company, was issued by the New Jersey Superior Court; an injunction against Intelligent Alternatives was issued by the California Superior Court.
